TRAINER SPOTLIGHT: SHAUN

This week we’re turning our Trainer Spotlight on Shaun!

I’m originally from…
Cleveland, Ohio

I came to New York for/because…
I’m an actor and a director so New York was a no brainer. It’s a city full of energy and creativity. To live here requires you to go big or home.

I got into fitness because…
I’ve always enjoyed athletics. Growing up I played basketball and ran track. And while I miss competing, what I loved most was the mental and physical benefits that I got from the training. And from that moment fitness I adopted fitness as a lifestyle. I believe the journey of fitness is ultimately about change. It allows an individual to first transform their body and then their life. By working through your physical challenges you strengthen not only your muscles, but also your resolve to conquer everyday stresses, leading to an elevated quality of life.


I came to teach at CITYROW because…
I was drawn to CITYROW because of the workout. A dynamic workout that always pushes me to bring my very best to every class. But I stayed at CITYROW because of the people. From my first class at CITYROW I felt welcomed and supported. And when the opportunity came up join the team I didn’t hesitate.

I love rowing because…
It’s truly a full body workout. At CITYROW you never have to wonder what part of your body is getting the workout because you’ll be working everything. I also love how scalable it is. It doesn’t matter if are a first-timer or a seasoned vet, anyone can step in any class and have a workout that will challenge them.


My teaching style is…
In a word: “energetic.” I believe in bringing just as much as energy to the workout as I ask for. I’ll give you my best if you give me yours.

You should take my class because…
In my class you’ll smile as much as you sweat. I have two rules: that you work as hard as you can (then a little harder) and that you have fun doing it.

My music is…
It’s all about the beat! I love music that moves you. That makes you smile, that makes you nod your head, and that pushes past what you thought was your limits. If it does those things it’ll find its way to my playlist.


CITYROW has changed me…
I consider myself a cardio junkie but before CITYROW that cardio consisted of either running or spin class. But it wasn’t until CITYROW that when I finished a workout besides sweaty I also felt strong. And that strength has then made my running and cycling better as well.


If I could have one celebrity take my class it would be…
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I love his work ethic and dedication to fitness. Of course he’d probably snap the rower in two on the first push.

I fuel up before and after class with…
For my body I love coconut water, for my mind I have a few podcasts I listen to daily, and for my spirit I take a moment each day in gratitude that I get to do what I love.
